Children’s Day: Senator Ekwunife describes access to quality education, childcare services as the hallmark of a responsible society

– Calls for innovative approach to child education in the Covid-19 pandemic era.

The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Uche Ekwunife has described access to quality education and childcare services as the hallmark of a responsible society.

She said this in a statement marking the 2020 International Children’s Day Celebration.

The Senator said that access to education is the greatest gift any society can give to her children. She called for efforts to ensure that the number of children without access to quality education is reduced to its barest minimum.

According to Senator Ekwunife, the task of ensuring that our children get the best of education, care and attention is a task that must be jointly executed by all critical stakeholders of the society. “The family, the religious organizations and governments must all rise up to their roles of ensuring that the Nigerian child is given all the necessary support that will guarantee that he is well equipped for the future”.

She stated the need for government, parents and the private sector to develop innovative approach to child learning during this time when child education through physical learning is threatened by the Covid-19 pandemic and highlighted the necessity for government to provide and subsidize the basic essentials for e-learning such as electricity, internet access and computers.

While wishing all Nigerian Children a Happy Children’s Day Celebration, Senator Ekwunife called for concerted efforts towards ensuring that the rights of children are adequately protected as well as a continuous review on the way children are educated, in line with the ever-changing demands of time. She reiterated her commitment to the development of the Nigerian child through programmes and projects designed to improve access to learning for the children in her constituency and beyond.
